MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIAN II

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASSThis is skilled work involving the responsibility for the efficient, journey-level performance of a variety of electrical tasks. This position differs from Maintenance Electrician I in the complexity and detail of the work performed. General instructions are received regarding tasks to be performed permitting considerable leeway in planning the details of each assignment. General supervision is provided by the Master Mechanic I and/or Master Mechanic II. Supervision may be exercised over the work of laborers and other subordinate staff, while fully participating in the work. Performs related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES (Illustrative Only)

  • Leads and participates in the execution of projects involving electrical components throughout County-owned facilities;
  • Assists in the planning of remodels and new construction;
  • Communicates with other tradesmen in the department, i.e. Carpenters, Plumbers, Project or Facilities Managers, Master Mechanics, in the planning and execution of projects;
  • Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance consistent with specifications and local electrical codes;
  • Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings and flooring;
  • Plans layout of, installs and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment;
  • Leads and participates in the installation of wiring, grounds, outlets, switches, relays, circuit-breaker panels, electrical fixtures and other equipment;
  • Ensures that safety precautions for employees and public are exercised and adhered to at all times;
  • Instructs subordinates in the proper use of equipment and materials;
  • Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs electrical conduits;
  • Performs other electrical installation, repair, and maintenance tasks as required;
  • Performs a variety of related activities as required.

Work activities that do not appear above are not excluded as appropriate work assignments, as long as they can be reasonably understood to be within the logical limits of the job.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICSThorough knowledge of the tools, processes, terminology and techniques associated with electrical trades; thorough knowledge of accident and safety precautions of the trade; good knowledge of local and state codes; ability to do a wide variety of electrical repair work with a high degree of skill; ability to coordinate work with the work of other trades; ability to plan, organize and direct the work of others; ability to read blueprints and rough sketches; ability to follow oral and written instructions; resourcefulness; initiative in completing assigned work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Ten (10) years of progressively more responsible, paid experience in electrical construction, including residential, commercial, or industrial construction.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Licensure as a Journeyman Electrician by the Putnam County Board of Electrical Examiners at time of appointment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Possession of a valid unrestricted appropriate level driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required at time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
