DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position involves primary responsibility for the efficient operation and maintenance of the circulation desk and public service area of a library. Work is primarily of routine nature and involves the performance of a variety of standardized clerical tasks necessary for the proper organization and distribution of library materials. Detailed instructions are given for new or difficult assignments. Work is performed under direct supervision. Performs related work as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment as applied to library clerical work; working knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System; working knowledge of library filing and shelving rules; working knowledge of business arithmetic and English; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to accurately operate a personal computer; ability to write legibly; tact and courtesy in dealing with staff and public.
SUBSTITUTION NOTE: Post-secondary level education may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience indicated above on the basis of thirty (30) college credits per year of experience.
SPECIAL NOTE: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education.
