1,500 NYSEG customers without power. Knights of Columbus in Carmel opens Warming Center until 12 Midnight, reopening at 9:00 AM Saturday

NYSEG & Central Hudson crews continue to assess and correct the damage that was inflected to the electrical distribution system from high winds that went through our area early this morning into late afternoon. Currently NYSEG reports that approximately 1,500 customers are without power. NYSEG crews will remain in the field through the night working to restore service. NYSEG reports that they expect all service to be restored by 11 PM tomorrow, December 24, 2022.

Winds will continue to gust 25 – 35 MPH through the night and into tomorrow. These wind gusts along with temperatures in the teens overnight will create a dangerous wind chill of below zero.

To assist residents:

The Knights of Columbus have opened their building at 10 Fair St in Carmel as a warming/charging station. The building will stay open until midnight this evening reopening at 9:00 AM tomorrow.

The Town of Carmel has opened the Town Hall as a warming/charging station. The Town Hall will be open until 11 PM this evening and reopen from 8 AM – 11 PM tomorrow.

Please note the following:

Our public transportation system which includes, Croton Falls Commuters, any fixed route PART System, Paratransit, Veteran’s Transports and Pre-K/EI Transportation to schools in Putnam and Westchester Counties, has suspended all service for Friday, December 23, 2022. 

Normal service resumes tomorrow until 2:00 PM, when we will close in observance of Christmas

Service remains closed until Tuesday December 27, 2022

 

 

Remember to check on family, friends, and vulnerable neighbors and If you MUST travel give yourself enough time and drive carefully.

 

Residents are reminded that to report a power outage or downed wires you should call your local utility company; NYSEG 800-572-1131. Central Hudson 845-452-2700 or use their apps. If you use a generator, remember NEVER operate it in an enclosed space, even with a window or door open. This includes inside your home, basement or garage. Doing so can lead to a potentially lethal build-up of colorless, odorless, poisonous carbon monoxide gas.
