The Putnam County Department of Health is
pleased to announce the creation of the Putnam County Medical
Reserve Corps (MRC). The purpose of the MRC is to recruit and
train volunteers to support the county in the event of a
disaster, whether the result of terrorism or natural causes.
We know that disasters can strike close to
home and without any notice. We must therefore be prepared to
respond immediately and effectively, and this requires an
adequate workforce. In a large-scale event, no community would
be adequately prepared in terms of person power. That is why
hundreds of MRC’s are springing up across the country. Our goal
is to serve our community with a group of well trained
volunteers to support our Emergency Response teams in the event
of a Public Health Emergency.
MRC’s are seeking both medical and non-medical
volunteers. This includes physicians, nurses, paramedics, EMT’s,
Mental Heath professionals and lay people with expertise in many
areas. Anyone, especially retired individuals, with a
commitment to the residents of Putnam County will be
welcomed by the MRC.
